Houston’s Lack of Lack In A Down Economy Explained…

Patrick Jankowski, Houston region economist and VP of research at the Greater Houston Partnership explains how Houston is bucking the trend of a down economy. “Success tends to follow success” in an economy. With key industries including oil & gas, engineering and international trade bringing outside companies to our area to tap these resources, Houston’s economy flourishes. Other contributing factors to our strong economy include a very strong, well trained workforce. In sum, 20% of Houston’s economy is geared to global trade, 50% the economy geared to oil & gas (down from 87% in the ’80s) and both carry us when the national economy is weak.
